Plus One is a solo show by Bobbie Russon, a British artist whose portraits depict adolescent melancholy at its most vulnerable. Russon’s characters challenge the viewer to stop for a moment of reflection and empathy, as we find ourselves having already stumbled into their private emotional worlds. In this new body of work, the artist focuses her attention on those that confine themselves, not only in solitude, but in the company of a pet or toy. These hit a particular nerve this year as we reflect on our own experiences and sacrifices, and their connection to our own personal relationships.
